I’m thrilled that my painting was juried into the SPS International Show at Oglethorpe University Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia. The pastel painting is titled Flora in Pot and is 24”x 20”.
Painting is a way of expressing yourself that I find irresistible. To express with feeling a scene. Whether it is of the landscape, a still life of my favorite things, or a posing figure; I strive to create a mood that the viewer can visualize through my painting.
I am living in the North Georgia mountains and am able to see the beautiful mountain vistas, streams and fields all around me. I hope that I can record these scenes so that they can be remembered and enjoyed. Many of the old farms are disappearing and the rural settings are being replaced by progress. Whether I’m painting plein air or recording the scene with my camera while on travels, I love the process. Seeing the many shapes, colors, and values are always in my mind. Painting satisfies me and stills me to contemplate how I will convey my vision. Pastel, oil or encaustics are all mediums that I make use of. Whether the paint is the soft vibrancy of pastels, the brushwork in the oils, or the unpredictability of the encaustics; I love being an artist.
